I did some sketching yesterday afternoon whilst out for a coffee. This is something that I have neglected doing for ages and it takes a few drawings to get back into the swing of it. I'm not aiming for great drawings here but rather just jotting down peoples poses and clothing. It is not easy as you sometimes only have around 5 seconds to get the details down as someone passes by.

DWWP review

The other day I picked up Matt Madden and Jessica Abel's book Drawing words and writing pictures' which I had been wanting before it came out. I should preface this by saying I am big fan of 'how to' art books, and make a point to read them when I can. The best way to see if you will like the book is to look at the art inside, if it is good then it makes sense that the advice will be also good. Then again I have read my share of bad how to cartoon books as I always find it interesting to read from another artists perspective and you can almost guarantee that there will be one little gem of information in the book that is helpful or in the very least confirms what you are already doing. I really liked Jessica Able’s DIY guide to comics on her website (which is currently down and or in the process of being moved to the www.dw-wp.com website) and I also like the both of the authors art. Sure enough I was not let down by this book! Not only is it very comprehensive in terms

Sketches

I've been trying to get back into sketching for sketching sake lately. Not so much to make interesting drawings (although that may happen) but to practice and gain experience to draw better (hopefully)

I bought a set of Kohinoor rapidograph pens (technical pens, just like rotering and steadtlet make) from ebay for $40 which was a bargain. I'd heard lots or good reports about the brand so I was confident I would like them. The main reason I brought a set was to get a 0.7 or 0.8 pen but the set only goes up to 0.6. I also got the set thinking I'd had a back up for my 0.5 which I use for all my comic drawing these days, but I don't like the feel of this 0.5 pen, which I can only put down to the the fact that I'm so used of my steadtler 0.5 pen. Add to this that I don't really use the smaller sizes at all I'm wondering now what I can actually do with the set... Is anyone interested in buying the set or at least one or more of a particular size that they need? I'd be willing to sell them for $10 each or $40 for the set and I'll even chuck in some ink. The sizes are: 0.13 0.18 0.25 0.30 0.35 0.50 0.60

Just got copies of a zine I made with a local comic artist Daniel Brandt. You may remember I gave a preview of one of the pieces on April 24th. It's a 16pp (half Legal, 10.5 x 18cm) jam drawing zine. Yellow cover B&W inside. I have a few copies available, it's cost price only on this one, a flat $1 to Nth America and $2 to the rest of the world will secure your own copy.
